Not Bob Saget, too!!!

The world was JUST figuring out how to live with our grief over losing Betty White when, out of NOWHERE, a lil post on Instagram caught my eye last night. Bob Saget found dead in his hotel room. I thought it was a sick joke. I WISH. It’s not. So, not only did we lose our TV grandma, we just lost our TV dad, too. I can’t, I just can’t right now.

Bob Saget was the OCD dad on the tv show, Full House, in the late 80’s into the early 90’s. It was one of my favorite shows during that time. Of course, I loved it because Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) was a singer, was hot, and LOVED Elvis. lol. Bob played Danny Tanner, widowed dad to three girls. His brother in law and best friend moved in after his wife died to help raise the girls. Hilarity ensued. Here’s a cute clip of Bob as Danny dancing with middle daughter Stephanie (played by Jodie Sweetin):

Bob Saget was then tapped to be the host of America’s Funniest Videos a couple years after Full House began, and that’s when I really began appreciating him on his own. I loooooove funny videos, and this was WAY before Google, YouTube, or the Internet period. (I mean, I KNOW I’m youthful looking and all…but yeah, I am truly old). We would gather to watch Bob introduce funny videos, and the animal videos were always my favorite. Now that I’m thinking about it, that means that Bob was the first to introduce funny cat videos. Sigh.

I have to show y’all this clip of AFV because he had Billy Ray Cyrus come on the show, and it was at the very beginning of the Achy Breaky Heart dance craze. No one ever believes me when I say that BRC and his amazing mullet were on AFV back in the day. Welp, yes he was and here’s the proof:

I love how kind Bob appears while speaking to BRC. It seems genuine. However, Bob was also a super talented stand up comedian, and was able to be naughty, but still loveable in his own unique way! LOL Here he is appearing on Rodney Dangerfield’s “Dangerfield” stand up club back in the 80’s, before Full House or AFV: (Caution, it was early 80’s…some content would not be covered in today’s world.)

Thanks to TikTok, I discovered this sweet tribute at the beginning of the pandemic to the Cheers, The Golden Girls, and Full House theme songs where Bob shows up as Danny Tanner in angel form and gives Kelly some great advice to being happy while missing her friends. Trigger warning, I cried, you may, too.

During season 1 of Full House, the Tanner family was still healing from the loss of Pam Tanner, Danny’s wife, and the girls’ mother. Danny shared a little secret of remembering people who’ve left: “Talking about it, that’s what helps me. Talking about the memories. That’s what keeps her in your heart.” So, let’s never forget Bob, Betty, or anyone close to our own hearts we’ve lost. Talk about them, talk about the memories, and we’ll always have them in our hearts. In all the tributes I’ve been reading since last night, there’s one amazing thing that keeps showing up in everyone’s posts about Bob. He always told them “I love you”. Didn’t matter if it was a text, a call or in person, he made sure to leave them with an “I love you”. One of his daughters shared her last text with him and he ended it with a “love you”.

Bob, thank you for the laughs, the lovingly doled out fatherly advice, the great cleaning hacks, and above all else, thank you for leaving this world just a little better than it was. I love you. We all love you.
